TOM WAITS

The first thing everyone comments on when they first encounter Mr. Waits is his voice .My favorite reactions are ''Does this guy gargle with gravel'' or ''He sounds like Louis Armstrong with a sore throat''. In the press it has been described as an Assault weapon or as if it has been soaked in Bourbon,smoked and then run over by a truck. However distinctive his voice may be it's not how he sounds that interests me. Its more what he says that make this guy one of the best lyricists in the world. His songs have been covered by the likes of Bruce Springstein and Rod Stewart. Regardless of who is singing a Tom Waits song the song it's self is always intriguing and engaging.
